Educational Methodology – Intensive Courses 2013

The Institute of Salesian Studies is offering two weeks of intensive courses targeted for educators and youth ministers. Participants who complete the course will receive 3 continuing education units for each course. If you wish to take these courses for graduate credit, please contact the Director, Fr. John Roche.

Week One:

Education & Evangelization: Girls & Young Women

  • 7-11 January 2013,  5:00PM – 8:30PM  (dinner provided)
  • Adjunct Professor: Sr. Ann Cassidy, FMA
  • Course Description:  The education and formation of young people in today’s climate provides many challenges as well as opportunities for the educator. Although this course stands on its own, it is the first of a two-part series of intersession courses which present a methodology to education in today’s context. In this first part, Sr. Ann Cassidy, FMA draws upon the research of contemporary educators, as well as her own years of experience, to highlight the effectiveness of Salesian pedagogy, as well as to tailor its educational methods for the education of girls and young women.

Week Two:

Education & Evangelization: Boys & Young Men

  • 14-18 January 2013,  5:00PM – 8:30PM  (dinner provided)
  • Adjunct Professor: Fr. John Serio, SDB
  • Course Description: The education and formation of young people in today’s climate provides many challenges as well as opportunities for the educator. Although this course stands on its own, it is the second of a two-part series of intersession courses which present a methodology to education in today’s context. In this second part, Fr. John Serio, SDB draws upon the research of contemporary educators, as well as his own years of experience, to highlight the effectiveness of Salesian pedagogy, as well as to tailor its educational methods for the education of boys & young men.

Course Fees (one week)

  • 1-2  participants:  $249  ea.
  • 3-4  participants:  $225  ea.
  • 5 +  participants:  $198  ea.

Special Seminar FREE!

There will be a special seminar offered a few mornings by Fr. Arthur Lenti, SDB. He will be presenting Don Bosco & the Supernatural in a classroom at Don Bosco Hall for those who are taking the above intensive courses, and wish to participate. Dates and times will be posted soon, so please check back.

Housing: 

Don Bosco Hall: For non-locals, the most affordable option is Don Bosco Hall. Special rates for the intensive courses are $39/night (group and religious discounts available, contact us for details). This rate covers breakfast and lunch on weekdays, and dinner on weekends. space is limited (about 14 individual rooms and a couple of shared rooms), so first come first serve!
